The fashion school at INVALID ATELIER offers a wide range of courses.
Our Fashion Design & Fashion Technique courses are based on a unique concept. With individual guidance, you will first sketch your own design, create a pattern based on it, and then make your own garment.
The sewing courses include all necessary materials, such as test fabric, (pattern) drafting paper, and haberdashery. Of course, you are welcome to use our sewing and overlock machines.
During the pattern-making course, you will build a foundation in understanding, drafting, and adjusting patterns.
Fashion is a craft, and the courses focus on developing the right skills while helping you discover your own design style or signature. Students are challenged to push their limits and realize their dream designs. Together, we create high-fashion of the highest quality.
The courses are held in the professional workshop of INVALID Atelier. The workshop has a young, international, and dynamic atmosphere. Since each student works on their own project, the courses are accessible to everyone—from young to old, and from beginners to advanced.

FASHIONDESIGN & SEWINGTECHNIQUES COURSE
From Idea to Finished Garment – Design, Draft & Make It Yourself
Would you love to learn how to design and create your own clothing – made to measure, with your personal style and vision?
In this creative course of 8 lessons of 3 hours each, I’ll guide you step by step: from your first idea to a professionally finished piece you’ll be proud to wear.
This course is perfect for anyone ready to dive into fashion – whether you're a complete beginner or already have some experience.
At INVALID Atelier, you’ll work in an inspiring, professional environment on your own unique design.
What will you do?
Create your own design
You decide what to make – a coat, trousers, dress, or top. You’ll develop your idea into a clear and technically workable design.
Take measurements & draft your pattern
You’ll learn how to take professional measurements and draft a custom pattern to fit your body. You’ll receive a mini pattern booklet with a helpful step-by-step guide to take home.
Make a toile (test garment)
You’ll test your design in cotton fabric (included). This allows you to check the fit and make any adjustments to your pattern.
Couture sewing techniques
Learn how to insert zippers, create waistbands, add linings, and finish your garment neatly – depending on your specific design.
Bring your garment to life
You’ll realize your design in the fabric you’ve chosen. From first stitch to final detail – you’ll make it entirely yourself.
What’s included?
All basic materials: measuring tape, chalk, seam ripper, basting thread.
Cotton fabric for your toile.
Mini pattern booklet with step-by-step instructions
You only need to bring the fabric for your final piece, matching thread, and any extras like zippers or lining – depending on your design.

PATTERN CUTTING COURSE
Creating a good pattern is the foundation for every garment. In 8 lessons, you will learn step by step how to draft patterns and accurately measure, calculate, and incorporate measurements into a well-fitting pattern.
You will begin with the basic straight skirt pattern, and from there, you will learn to make variations with other designs. Throughout the course, skirts, pants, dresses, and sleeves will be covered.
In addition to pattern drafting, you will also learn to take different body shapes and postures into account. This will help you develop technical insight, such as: moving princess seams, laying fabric in different ways, and more.
During the pattern drafting course, you will have homework where you must work out a pattern in fabric, allowing us to assess the fit and make any necessary adjustments. It’s therefore helpful if you have some experience with sewing.

Duration: 8 Pattern Cutting lessons. Per lesson 2 hours.

ONE-DAY SEWING TECHNIEK WORKSHOP
Are you looking to learn basic sewing techniques or curious to see if sewing is for you? Then we have the perfect sewing techniques workshop for you! In this 3-hour workshop, you'll learn how to set up a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, and master various basic techniques such as sewing straight lines, stitching seams, zigzag stitches, and hemming a pair of pants or a skirt. Participation costs only €60.
When: Friday, August 28th and September 25th.
Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Duration: 1 sewing lesson. Each session lasts 3 hours.
Small groups (max. 4 participants).
Price: €60,- (incl. VAT). Payment in one installment is possible.
Courses are conducted in both Dutch and English.
If you have your own group of 4 people, the workshop can be scheduled on another date.

ADVANCED FASHION DESIGN & SEWING TECHNIQUES
Deepen your skills in fashion design, pattern making & sewing techniques
Would you like to deepen your knowledge of fashion and learn how to translate a design into a pattern and, ultimately, into a professionally finished garment?
In this intensive 16-session course, we combine pattern making, fashion design and sewing techniques. Step by step, you will learn how to work from design and pattern to toile, fit, construction and finishing.
This course is for people who are serious about learning and willing to invest time in their projects outside of class.
What will you learn?
Fashion Design & Pattern Making
You will learn how to translate a design into a technically workable pattern. You will work with basic patterns for skirts, trousers and dresses, and learn how to create variations using sleeves, collars and different styles.
You will learn how to adjust patterns and develop a better understanding of garment construction and fit.
Toiles & Fit
You will make toiles to test your patterns and learn how to assess and improve the fit.
Sewing Techniques & Finishing
You will deepen your knowledge of garment construction and finishing. Depending on your design, you will learn techniques including collars, lapels, sleeves, pockets, zippers, lining and different closures.
Your Own Project
You will choose your own design and develop it into a fully finished garment using your chosen fabric.
Design → Pattern → Toile → Fit → Construction → Finishing
Homework
You will receive assignments to work on patterns and toiles between classes. This allows you to discuss, improve and further develop your work during the lessons.
Who is this course for?
For people with some to extensive sewing experience who want to deepen their knowledge of fashion design, pattern making, garment construction and sewing techniques.
You do not need to be a professional, but you should have a good understanding of basic sewing techniques.
